Knee Arthritis

Knee with Arthritis
Does anyone have experience of having a knee replacement due to arthritis when in your forties, or know of another option?
My partner has been told that her arthritis in the knee can only be dealt with by a replacement. She is not keen on this option as she is still only in her forties. Do you have any experience or comments on this situation ?
One person’s answer…. my mom had her knee replaced when she was 50. Shes had bad arthritis for about 30 years previous to that, and after multiple reconstruction surgeries, a replacement was her last option. She was concerned that the knee replacement would have to be replaced again in a number of years. She talked with her orthopedist, and was told that in about 20 years or so would have to have the plastic parts replaced, but the metal does not have to.
My mom was having a horrible time with her knees before she got it replaced. The day after her surgery the PT department had her standing and taking a step or two, although she struggled. Within 5 days post-op, shewas already already able to walk up and down her hallway without a whole lot of problems.
having her knee replaced was one of the best things that every happened to my mom. She was able to walk a lot further than she was before, and have very little pain.
The surgery itself did cause a lot of pain for a while, but in the long run, it was a good thing.
Also…. my husband had BOTH knees replaced. He was over 70 years old when he had it done. the first day was pretty rough, but he got better and better every day. Now he can walk and do things he hasn’t been able to do for years.
